The History of Saluda

The Saluda Grade: One of the town's most significant historical landmarks is the Saluda Grade, a section of railway renowned for its steep incline and sharp curves-- is the steepest mainline standard gauge railroad grade in the country! Built in the 1870s, this engineering marvel played a vital role in connecting the mountainous region to the rest of the state, facilitating trade and travel.
